About the association
Ocean Academy is a non-profit organisation whose main objective is to raise awareness among young people about the beauty and fragility of the ocean, through interventions in schools and extracurricular activities, as well as through events at festivals, or simply through its online presence.
The association, officially established in 2023, was originally a division of the Longitude 181 association before becoming an independent project.
During this change, it became necessary to develop a new website.
Objectives and expectations
As the association is composed exclusively of volunteers, it was essential that they be able to easily learn how to use the website content management tools:
- production of blog post-type content to report on the association's news, its actions, but also events related to its theme (the ocean)
- the creation of newsletters
- dynamic data that is likely to change over time, such as the list of members and external supporters
- resources and other educational content to share online
In addition, the newly created association was seeking a project management and internal communication solution.
The new site
The association’s new website has adopted a graphic design reminiscent of the ocean and is visually consistent with its target audience of young people.
A modal menu has been created to enable easy navigation of the site, which contains a large number of pages and content types.
The website fulfils its objectives, namely to offer educational and entertaining online content for young audiences and teachers, as well as to inform visitors about the association’s activities and opportunities for involvement.
Multiple PDF and video tutorials have been produced, as well as video conferences, to train active members in web content management.
Webmastering assistance, in addition to technical site management, allows the association to delegate certain “technical” tasks.
The Nextcloud collaborative workspace
A Nextcloud instance has been deployed and configured to meet the needs of the association and its volunteers.
This tool allows users to manage files with sharing controls, organise online discussions (chat and video), and share the schedules of activities for the various branches.
